Mitchell River - Ancient Aboriginal Rock Art
Back to list
Continuing along the track from Little Mertens Falls towards
the Mitchell Falls, shortly before you arrive at the Mertens gorge, you will
walk past a little waterhole with a sheared rock face on the opposite side. It’s
really worth hopping across the river along the big boulders to investigate it.
Under the overhang, you will find a big gallery of aboriginal
rock art. There are a lot of stories being told in those ancient paintings; one
that puzzled me the most is a picture on the left showing two groups of people with their spears and boomerangs and a person in the middle that seems to be the subject of their attention. Seems like someone's in trouble!
Have a look at the panorama, zoom in and see what other interesting figures can you find!
